Basler DECS-250 AVR retrofit awarded to EPS on a Solar Mars 100 following timely remote support
EPS have been awarded a contract for retrofitting obsolete AVR with a new Basler DECS-250 on Solar Mars 100. This is to replace an obsolete Basler DECS125-15 which was made obsolete by the manufacturer in 2013.
After encountering AVR issues, the customer contacted EPS to enquire about spares for their existing system. We had already completed Brush MAVR to Basler DECS250 AVR retrofits on another of their sites so suggested that this site made the same change.
The request was urgent as production was shutdown so EPS began work immediately. As part of this process, various areas were identified to the customer to check were working to assist with their immediate problem. EPS highlighted a particular relay to be checked which resolved the issue and got the customer up and running in short time. All of this being completed remotely whilst working on the engineering of the new retrofit. Through EPS’s attention to detail and focus to get the customer running, days of production were saved.
The customer still appreciated that the existing equipment was not supportable anymore so are continuing with the retrofit. The engine in question is a Solar Mars 100 11MWe which runs in conjunction with 2 x Rolls Royce/Siemens RB211’s.
This is just one of many retrofits EPS can perform. We have completed AVR retrofits not only on gas turbines, but also piston engine generators including Emergency Generators. These upgrades are completed with very little site intervention time to ensure that power stability is maintained.
