STAR Valve to Woodward GS16 retrofit – Over 50,000 hrs of trouble free operation

EPS has now exceeded 50k hours on 3 Woodward GS16 fuel valve retrofits that were previously fitted with Siemens STAR valves. The existing STAR valves were prone to failures of the ECU and APU cards along with the valves themselves. They required annual replacement of the feedback device, and sometimes in between. This meant that fuel metering was always comprised requiring constant changes to fuel light-off flows and multiple starts.

Since the installation of the Woodward GS16 fuel valves by EPS and integrating with the Rustronic MKII system:

  • there have been no changes to the light-off flow
  • start reliability is 100% (when looking at non-driven unit trips)
  • there have been no interventions or maintenance required
